How the numbers work

Every month each member pays the same contribution, and the whole pot goes to the member whose turn it is. So:

Someone holding two shares pays double and gets two turns. Count shares as members in the calculator.

Questions

Is the first turn or the last turn better?
Both receive the same amount. The first turn is like an interest-free loan: you get the money now and repay it month by month. The last turn is like savings. Inflation does make the last payout worth a little less.
How are turns decided?
Usually by drawing lots, or by the organizer. Someone who needs the money soon often asks for an early turn. Whatever the method, write the order down and send it to everyone before the first month.
What if a member does not pay?
The organizer should know the same day, which needs a record of who paid each month. The full method: how to run a committee.
